If your home is 70 plus years old, you probably have old wood beam(s) as the central support. 70 years ago they married 2×10”s or 2×12”s together with nails and used that “beam” to support the load in your home. If your home is 100 plus years, it is almost guaranteed that you have a hewn log beam(s) as the central support. Over time, wood will flex with weight on top of it, especially if there are wide spans unsupported. In some older homes the beams have “drooped” so much that the plaster and moldings on the main and upper floors have serious “bows” or sags that make furniture appear off kilter and interior decorating a bit of a challenge. Typically an old beam of say 16×16” can support an average sized homes weight to a span of about 8’. If the spans in your home are greater than 8’, you will have already experienced the sagging and it will continue to get worse with age and more weight above. The solution ? We come into your home, measure the sag(s) and spans to provide you with a plan that will bring your homes beam back up to level again, properly supported by structural steel posts and proper load bearing footings and or structural steel beams (if necessary). This can be done by ourselves with or without a permit, as we are not removing the old beam, simply supporting it and reinforcing it.
