- Why Us
Why Quality Installation Matters Most
The problem with the tile setting industry is, as witnessed in my over 38 years of experience, that there are virtually no oversight or inspections of tile setting. Every other trade has inspections, ESA for electrical, Building Inspectors for structural and Plumbing, but who ensures the quality and soundness of tile installations?
No, I can’t possibly do every job myself, at 63 years of age, my expertise and experience are more valuable as a manager / coordinator than as tile setter, although I still do set tile! My company serves as quality control assurance to provide homeowners like yourself with licenced, bonded, insured and vetted, precision tile setters. All tilecontractor.ca tile setters have a minimum of 5 years’ experience; they must adhere to OUR standards of tile setting and be accountable for any variations from these standards.
Virtually anyone can watch a video on tile setting or attend a Home Depot “how to set tile” seminar and with the purchase of some tools, start advertising as a tile setter. Zero oversight, no inspections, often no insurance or licensing. They set tiles on flexing or untreated subfloor, so it looks good when they’re done and they get paid. Six months to a year later, you start to see grout lines cracking and then tiles shifting and breaking. These same guys get a few jobs under their belt and start installing showers. A year or two later the shower floor and wall tiles are shifting, and grout is crumbling and I get called to fix another improper installation because they’re no longer in business. It’s expensive, inconvenient and disruptive in any home and can be easily avoided. How? Call me.
If for any reason they do not provide the level of quality and precision promised in their contract with you, we will correct the deficiency at no further cost. We adhere to the Better Business Bureau’s code of ethics and business conduct. We believe in transparency, honesty and integrity and providing the best in home services available anywhere. — James House

Jeff WolfeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a very good experience with James and his team. Our shower floor was a disaster of poorly installed pebble tile. James removed and replaced with a beautiful new tile. He is a great communicator and advised us through the purchase of tile and the new design of the drain. I would recommend Tile Contractor to anyone needing tile services.Posted on Google A.J. VTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. James and his team did a great job! He installed the tiles, sink, vanity, and toilet, and everything was done with great care and attention to detail. The workmanship is excellent — everything looks perfect and works exactly as it should. James was professional, punctual, and left the space clean and tidy when he finished. Everyone I worked with here was great. We ended up needing work done in a serious time crunch (we had no bathrooms and were a couple weeks from moving in). They were able to come out super quickly for the estimate and were able to squeeze in our project before the end of the month. The work they did was beautiful and the pricing was good. I highly recommend them!Posted on Google Scott PurdieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had James complete a “gentle demo” in our ensuite, and are currently working with him to correct some shoddy work done by TWO previous contractors (be careful out there!) in the same space. We find James to be extremely knowledgeable, patient, hardworking and friendly, and would recommend him to anyone looking for honest and excellent professional work done at a reasonable price. Thanks for your help, James!Posted on Google Kamal AnandTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently had the pleasure of working with James on a backsplash installation for my kitchen, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the results. From start to finish, James was professional, attentive, and clearly passionate about his craft. The backsplash turned out absolutely perfect. Every tile was laid with precision, and the final look has completely transformed the space. It’s now the highlight of my kitchen! James paid close attention to the details, ensuring clean lines, even spacing, and a flawless finish. His work truly speaks for itself.Posted on Google Steve ZehrTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. - About Us
Design, function, fit and finish...
Finding a balance between, function, style and budget is key to successful renovations.
Bathrooms are not just places for us to wash up anymore, they are our personally styled little piece of heaven after a long day.
Kitchens are no longer just a place to prepare food, we gather there and enjoy the convenience and beauty of the space as it flows into the rest of your home.
At Tile Contractor, we listen to your ideas, design your vision to fit your space, then bring it to life.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help you define your ideas, craft a plan that incorporates everything you want and manage the project from start to completion. Whether it’s simply tiling a floor or shower to complete kitchen and bathroom Reno’s, we ensure detailed contracts, handle permits, trades and quality control at every stage, and provide you a written 5 year warranty. We are the gold standard in our field and we adhere to the business code of conduct as laid out by the BBB with an A+ rating.
Our Vision
Our vision is to provide vetted, highly skilled tradespeople who take pride in their work, are licensed and insured, bonded and most importantly, careful and respectful in your home during the renovations.
All trades we bond have been trained by James House, a 39 year veteran tile setter and licensed general contractor. Every tradesperson who works through Tile Contractor tests subfloors before tiling, completes a water leak test before tiling a shower base and many other important checks at each stage of your job to ensure 100% code compliance and peace of mind. Our vision is to provide a top quality renovation every time, no compromises.
Bathroom Remodeling In Kitchener & Waterloo
We’re one of the few bathroom remodelers in Kitchener-Waterloo that tests before we tile — not after. Every shower base and pan is water-tested for leaks before tile installation, and every subfloor is checked for flex and deflection first, because grout and tile failures almost always start underneath, not on the surface.
Waterloo Region has a lot of housing stock built well before current code — century homes in Old Westmount, Auditorium, Cherry Hill, and Central Frederick, and mid-century builds throughout Forest Heights, Westmount, and Stanley Park. These homes often have uneven subfloors, out-of-level walls, and plumbing that predates modern fixture standards. We plan around that reality rather than discovering it mid-project.
Our bathroom remodeling covers:
- Complete bathroom renovations — controlled demolition, full project coordination, finishing
- Waterproof shower builds, custom or prefab, with triple waterproof protection, shower niches, mitred seams, and linear drains
- Curbless (zero-threshold) and accessible shower design — a properly sloped linear drain keeps water contained without a raised curb, and we build in grab-bar blocking during construction so accessibility upgrades don’t require tearing the shower apart later
- Heated floor systems, with heat-reflective membrane and cable layout optimized for efficiency and longevity — heated floor circuits are wired with GFCI protection, as required
- Safety glass on all shower and tub enclosures, per Ontario Building Code
- Mechanical exhaust ventilation ducted to the exterior (not into the attic or crawl space) to control the moisture that causes mould and grout failure behind tile

Tile Installation Services - 3100+ Contracting Projects
Tile work is where we started in 1983, and it’s still the foundation of everything we do. We install porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, marble, glass, mosaic, large-format, slate, and limestone tile — including complex custom patterns, herringbone and mixed-media layouts, and intricate mosaic work that most general contractors won’t attempt.
- Regular and epoxy grout systems, matched to the wear pattern of your space
- Custom mosaic and pattern work, including feature walls and niches
- Large-format tile installation, which requires a flat, levelled substrate — we always assess and correct the subfloor before a single tile goes down
- Bonded waterproofing membranes (not surface sealant) applied to substrate before tiling in any wet area, in line with current Ontario Building Code expectations for shower and tub enclosures

Sagging Beam Lifting in Older Homes
06
In many older homes they used wooden beams as a central support for the load bearing and Over time these beams start to sag and the floors with it.

Flooring Contractor - 39+ Years Of Experience
Our flooring work grows out of the same principle as our tile installations: the subfloor decides how long the finished floor lasts. We handle tile flooring, floor tile installation, and subfloor preparation and reinforcement for both bathrooms and kitchens, including:
- Subfloor and joist strengthening — testing for flex before it causes grout failure or cracked, loose tile down the line
- Sagging-beam lifting in older homes, a specialty most flooring contractors in the region don’t offer at all
- Porcelain and ceramic floor tile, natural stone flooring, and large-format floor tile installation
- Tile floor repair and replacement, including matching existing patterns in older homes
This matters most in areas with older or river-adjacent housing stock — Bridgeport (North, East, and West), the Grand River corridor, and Chicopee — where moisture management and subfloor condition need extra attention. It’s also relevant in newer growth areas like Doon South, where homes are recent but foundations are still settling.
